BEHIND THE NAME
In the 1800’s, Ragtown was established midway between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons to provide miners with somewhere to stay during their long journeys between the mines and the city. A simple town with makeshift homes and a few small stores, Ragtown became a refuge for hardworking people to take a break, relax and enjoy the rich surroundings of nature before returning to the long days working in the mines.

BEHIND THE NAME
Devil’s Gate, a narrow impassable section of rocky quartz, was one of the most influential rock formations on the pioneer trail. Its rugged terrain forced them to enter the valley where Salt Lake City currently exists, rather than at a more northern point. It established the city as ‘the place’ and became the foundation for growth along the Wasatch Front. Many of the original settlers established themselves in Butlerville, making it a prosperous and well-known area.
TASTING PROFILE
Devil’s Gate is aged in oak barrels in small batches to enhance its oaky, vanilla aroma. The light amber color implies simplicity, while the subtle taste conveys a sweet vanilla flavor with a hint of buttered bread and corn oil. Sweet, grainy spice, vanilla and oak notes add a bit of complexity that offers a satisfying and smooth finish.

Settled by five Butler families, the area known originally as Butlerville, was best known for its treasured paper mill that brought prosperity and notoriety. While the town’s economy revolved around the mill, the families also cultivated the land, bringing vital natural resources to the valley. The area quickly attracted new settlers who came to the valley seeking opportunities to thrive and raise families.
